Collection: Bobcat Hides
Our bobcat season here in Idaho opens on December 14th so all the pelts taken from that time on until its closing are going to be superb. Idaho cats have a very, very fine quality pelt which is why they are in such high demand on the fur market and which invariably make them not only sought after by knowing taxidermists but lends itself well to the creation of a grand selling point. Many xxlarge toms with nice wide spotted bellies will command a price of possibly $800/00 or more, on the open market leaving those of us in the fur business in a quandary. Many states have bobcats ; Texas and Kansas are loaded and you can purchase them for maybe 150.00 each; why ? because that is all they are worth. On a scale of one to ten they will be a 4 or 5 at best quality wise whereas cats coming from Idaho, Montana, Nevada, some parts of Oregon and Colorado are just superior in fur density and overall quality however expect to pay three to four times that of those from the East or deep South. Fundamentally in the fur business you will get what you pay for - a cheap bobcat is a cheap bobcat no matter how you look at it; but it's still a bobcat. If you are looking for one to have rugged or as a full mount my recommendation would be purchase one from the western states and you will have something to be proud of for the rest of your life - a small price to pay for the best of the best.
